Just Getting Started!

Hello friends, I, Dianne, am getting started in my new journey with three different ventures. You know me, I can never do just one thing at a time. That would be boring. So what are the three ventures?

SCRAPBOOK, CARD MAKING, TABLE DECORATIONS, GIFT IDEAS, ETC

One of my best friends from college, Etta, has done really well with Close To My Heart. I went to one of her Card Making groups when I was home on vacation and had such a good time. I am just not sure how many people still do scrapbooking. But I know women love to decorate their houses, so I think most women can find something to do with the products that are offered by Close To My Heart. So check out what is available. I will be doing free teaching on how to make some of these products at my home or yours. I know my Alabama relatives and friends are interested so I will be having an open house Chocolate Affair on the 29th of September. I am hoping I will be meeting new friends with this venture that I can share the "main things that I love". So friends, please pray for this venture. I want to glorify the Lord in whatever I do. He has to be part of this.

2. Quilting and Sewing projects have been my love since I was a small 6 year old sitting at my Grandma Blair's feet and being taught by my great auntie. They both encouraged me and I was sewing on a treadle sewing machine when I was just a child. So when we got to Rwanda I could still sew on those machines. The women there could hardly believe it.

I am going to be making and selling baby quilts, lap quilts, banners and anything but large quilts. I have several queen size quilts I am working on finishing for myself. I am way too slow at hand quilting to sell those quilts. One of the quilts I will eventually be selling is my favourite crazy quilt pattern which several babies in Africa have received. I will show you a few now. The hard part will be calculating prices for these quilts.

As you can see I really like the crazy patchwork quilt. It looks good in all sorts of fabric as you can see for yourself. I made the animal print quilt for missionary kid named Country, who lives in Zambia on the Zambezi River. The bright pink crazy quilt went to my niece Lola and the Cowboy print went to her brother Landry. My sister got the autumn colored queen quilt. The African Gitenge fabric quilt is on our queen bed in Texas. I am hand quilting the signature quilt of all our missionary friends in Africa for our new house.

Hope you like looking at some of my quilts from the last few years. There are more but I am not willing to make them in quantity. I plan to teach quilting at my house also. Again another opportunity to do the main thing.

3. My third venture is making monograms with my new sewing machine which was a gift from a special friend. I am loving experimenting with the monograms. It is so easy and automatic! The hard part is placing it on the fabric where you really want it to be. Monograming is very popular.

The next challenge is tofind the right venue to sell these items. I plan to use this blog and Facebook but hope to go to craft fairs also. I did this sort of things before we were appointed 32 years ago but I was younger than and had more energy. As you know I have had four back surgeries recently so I have to pace myself and wear a back brace while I am working on these things. Continue to pray for my back to heal and that I will be disciplined doing my exercises.

Larry is acting as my business manager for the time being until the Lord leads him into a new ministry after we retire from the mission board next August. Pray for him as well.
